Although most people don't automatically think about going to American Samoa when they are booking a vacation, it is swiftly becoming one of the premier destinations in the world. And, labeled as the heartbeat of it all is Pago Pago.

Travel the World from your Home TV

Television (TV) is a tool- it can be an evil distraction or used for learning, and creating good. Back in the 1970's, I belonged to a world-wide fraternal organization that had representatives for each of the 50 United States, and several foreign countries. I remember being at a convention in Atlantic City, NJ, where a synopsis of each representative's report was given by the leader of the organization, who prefaced her remarks with "I feel like I've traveled all over the world without leaving my chair.". The person sitting next to me commented "See- she DOES smoke that funny stuff!".

Advances in technology, especially in TV and computers, have enabled us to have contact with people from all over the globe. The World Wide Web gives us insights into the cultures and lifestyles of people from other countries. So do television programs from other countries.

As an American, I am amazed at how prudish we are when it comes to sex and nudity on television! When nudity is shown on television, 99 percent of the time, it is female nudity. Come on, we women like to look, too! Just watch any European TV show, especially the commercials. Watch one of those special "Uncensored Commercials" television shows that the networks have from time to time, and you will be amazed at the difference between the commercials shown here and abroad. Alas- the "Uncensored Commercials" show WILL censor the commercials to make them "suitable" for viewing in the US. Footballers Wives is one of my favorite British shows, and shows male and female nudity, unabashed and uncensored.

TV Censorship has become a huge problem since 2001, when the neocons took office. The standards are getting more and more restrictive, and the penalties more and more ridiculous. Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" during a Super Bowl halftime is a prime example. Federal Communications Commission chief Michael Powell promised an investigation into whether CBS violated decency laws, with potential fines of up to $27,500 PER AFFILIATE WHICH AIRED THE GAME!! . If applied to each CBS station, the fine could reach into the millions. The FCC in the United States is running rampant!! I can't even enjoy watching South Park on TV anymore- half of the dialogue is "bleeped" out. Soon, there will be nothing left on American TV but Mother Goose nursery rhymes. I know that children should be protected, but ultimately, that's the responsibility of the parents.

Another problem with getting objective and uncensored television is media conglomeration. Nine corporations, mostly US owned, dominate the media world : AOL-Time Warner, Disney, Bertelsmann, Viacom, News Corporation, TCI, General Electric (owner of NBC), Sony (owner of Columbia and TriStar Pictures and major recording interests), and Seagram (owner of Universal film and music interests). You might ask, "What is wrong with a few companies becoming so big? Isn't that how business works?" Focusing on democracy-enhancing principles and the institutions needed for it such as the media and journalism, the concern that arises is that there are very few media owners in the mainstream that reach out to the masses. As a result, there is the risk of reducing the diversity of issues and perspectives and of political influence and interests from a few affecting the many. We have seen this happening since 2001, when the televison, radio and print media seemed to be under tighter and tighter government control. To illustrate: during the Vietnam War, the American public saw images of war on their TV screens, and of flag-draped coffins returning with the bodies of soldiers slain in battle. These images have been "scrubbed" from the TV media coverage of the Iraqi war, probably at the behest of the "powers that be" in government. Why?

The American media did cover the recent Tsunami, and the devastation that it wrought in Asia. We were told by the news anchors appearing on our TV sets that the tsunami was caused by an earthquake. What was NOT mentioned by the American media, but WAS mentioned by news sources in Greece, was that there had been some bomb tests off the coast of Thailand in the Indian Ocean just a few days before the giant waves crashed ashore!! Again, here is government censorship of our media tightening the noose around our necks, and cutting off the flow of information to our brains.

The only real solution for the thinking person who wants to be fully informed is to access TV news media from around the world, and compare notes on how news stories are presented by different broadcasters. Even if you just want to be entertained, having access to television shows from different countries enriches the quality of life.

As a real estate investor it is sometimes a good investment move to make home improvements to any real estate properties that you purchase. There are several mistakes that commonly occur involving home improvement and real estate investing, and by knowing what these mistakes are you can save a lot of money and aggravation. Let the mistakes that other real estate investors have made be your guide on what to avoid.

The first mistake that some real estate investors make is to buy a property in a bad location or for more money than the house is worth. No matter how many home improvements you make on one of these properties it is unlikely that you will recover a decent profit or even your investment back. Always consider both of these factors before deciding to invest in the property and make home improvements.

A big mistake that many real estate investors make when they are doing home improvements is not knowing or finding out about the building codes in their area. Some investors do not obtain the necessary permits that are required by the city where the real estate investment property is located. This is one of the biggest mistakes, and it can cost you plenty if you make it. The building inspector is there to make sure that the home improvements are safe and done properly. If there is a permit required and you neglect to get one, you may be required to tear down any work that was done, get the permit, and then start from scratch.

Under budgeting for the home improvement project is another common mistake made by real estate investors. The old saying was to take the costs and triple them. That is an exaggeration but not by much. Most investors do not make a full detailed budget of what is needed for the home improvement project down to the last nail and staple. By being realistic and budgeting for all possible materials you will have a more realistic budget and are a lot less likely to go over budget. You should also plan for any unexpected eventuality that could occur and plan for it in the budget as well to avoid any unexpected and costly problems.

The single biggest mistake that real estate investors make is trying to save money on home improvement by doing projects themselves when they are not qualified. There are some projects that should have a licensed contractor or repairman on them. Many home improvement projects can safely be taken on by an amateur and turn out beautiful, but some projects like a new roof or any other extensive renovations should only be done by experts. This is because there are many safety issues involved in these projects, not just for the person doing the job but also for any tenants or owners who live in the house.

By avoiding these mistakes you can save a lot of money on your real estate investment. Know the value of the property before you purchase so you do not pay too much, and make sure that the location is decent. Make sure that your budget is realistic and that it takes into account every possible piece of material and cost. Also make sure that you factor in any possible unexpected cost or problem. The biggest mistake to avoid is to know when you should call for professional help and when you can safely do the home improvement project yourself.

Can Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth Package take out Derek Gehl's Internet Marketing Center?

I have been watching the traffic stats on Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth Package and they're climbing rapidly this week. I got interested in the Ultimate Wealth Package a few weeks ago primarily because they seemed to be pulling in so much traffic. It is said that the three keys to selling Real Estate successfully are: Location Location and Location. Likewise the three keys to selling on the Internet are: Traffic, Traffic and Traffic. I've worked for years with another successful Internet marketing group called the Internet Marketing Center. If you haven't heard of them you either haven't been doing your homework or you're still new to the Internet.

Derek Gehl's Internet Marketing Center sells a number of popular Internet marketing courses and software tools. Their flagship marketing course "The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet" can be be compared with Mark Warren's "Ultimate Wealth Package" Both teach you how to market on the Internet. Both can be sold via affiliate programs for similar commissions. Both claim to know and reveal the Internet's most guarded traffic driving secrets to make your business successful.

I have to say that I was originally attracted to the Internet Marketing Center by the late Corey Rudl. He was a very competent at the mechanics of website building. Being an engineer myself, I felt some affinity for his successful techniques. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago in a tragic accident while pursuing another of his great passions, auto racing. One of his mentor's Derek Gehl took over the reins of the site. IMC has remained a top competitor for many years. Their website traffic rankings have been consistently high and they have exhibited real staying power for over 10 years now.

The real question is whether Mark Warren's Ultimate Wealth Package is a fad that will flash to the top of the rankings and then sink or whether it has real substance and staying power like the Internet Marketing Center. i.e. Does Mark really know some secrets IMC doesn't? Only time will tell but this is certainly an interesting trend to watch play out.

While I originally started to avoid this subject like the plague, I felt the need to at a minimum address it because there are so many widely differing view points on what this actually means, what to do about it and how this really affects your overall health.

I was very happy to find that the Chief Science Officer at Univera LifeSciences, Steven Cherniske, had published a very informative article, The Acid Alkaline Mystery Solved, on this very subject. For any of you that have read any of Stephen Cherniskes work, you will not be surprised to see that it comes complete with all the references that you could hope for and the straight hard facts on this very confusing subject. As a result of this finding I am not going to attempt to do the subject justice, by trying to recreate an article of equal caliber. Verses re-inventing the wheel I am going to simply hit some of the high points for those of you who would prefer the cliff notes version. For those that would like to read all of the details I will leave that to Stephen and his article, The Acid Alkaline Mystery Solved.

First of all what is an Acid or for that matter an Alkaline substance? These substances are measured on a pH scale with water being neutral at 7.0. With values less than 7.0 being acid and the lower the pH value the stronger the acid. As you may have guessed alkaline (or base) substances have a value greater than 7.0 up to a maximum of 14. By now you may be wondering where our bodies should fall on this scale. First of all when we speak of an acid/alkaline balance in the body we are talking about the pH balance of our blood and tissues that should remain in a fairly narrow range of about 7.4 slightly alkaline.

The real heart of the matter here is the byproducts of the digestion of foods that we consume and absorb. The biggest contributors to the fact that ACIDOSIS is at an all time high are the facts that most Americans are consuming beef and/or poultry multiple times per day, Americans are now consuming more soft drinks than water, consumption of coffee (caffeinated & decaffeinated) and lastly the processing of many of our foods have removed all of the alkaline forming minerals. When thinking about the foods that we consume you can not take the natural state of a food as the prime indicator of how that food will interact with our bodies. As an example, most fruits when consumed will result in an alkaline ash residue once digested even though naturally they maybe very high in acid in their natural state, even oranges.

The primary acid forming foods in your diet contain the minerals, sulfur, phosphorus and iron. Typically you will find these minerals in proteins, such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, most nuts and soft drinks (due to the high phosphate levels).The minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium form alkaline reactions in the body and are found primarily in fruits and vegetables, and so these foods are classified as alkaline forming foods. As many of you are aware the consumption of alkaline-forming vegetables and fruit is at an all-time low. This has resulted in an increase of acidosis which accelerates catabolic damage and impairs our bodies anabolic repair processes. One of the best examples is the fact that it has been known for a long time that diets high in protein greatly increase the risk of osteoporosis. While there are many theories on this subject it appears that the body is simply taking from one part of the body to help support other systems that have been depleted due to the body staying in such a high state of acidosis.

If your diet seems like torture, if the food gives you no pleasure, if you're making yourself and everyone around you miserable, then you'll have trouble losing all the weight you want and keeping it off.

You have to make long-term changes in your eating habits to succeed with weight loss. So whatever you do to lose weight initially should be similar to how you keep it off.

That means you have to eat foods you enjoy. You have to be able to socialize at food-based events. You have to be able to enjoy life.

2. You Should Lose No More Than 2 Pounds a Week.

Sometimes, you may lose a little more at the beginning. But week-to-week, 2 pounds is enough. Anything more is unhealthy.

3. Your Diet Shouldn't Be Extreme in Any Way.

Unless your doctor advises you otherwise, it's unhealthy to eliminate entire food groups. A balanced diet provides vitamins and minerals to keep you strong.

So skip the diets with low-carb, all grapefruit, or whatever the latest fad is. Extreme diets usually don't work. At least not for very long.

4. You Should Have Minimal or No Hunger.

If you're losing only 1 or 2 pounds a week, you shouldn't experience tremendous hunger. Not if you plan your meals and snacks correctly.

5. You Should Have Lots of Food Choices.

There's no reason to restrict the kinds of food you eat week to week. I've never understood plans that say in Week 1, you can only eat these 10 foods. In Week 2, you can add another 5 foods. But if you gain weight, go back to Week 1.

If your diet doesn't work with every food from Day One, it's probably not going to work. Period.

6. You Should Be Able to Enjoy the Holidays.

If your diet doesn't build in holiday eating, you're going to do it anyway. You'll just ruin your diet.

That's why so many people start diets in January - after the holidays. Trouble is, the holidays always roll around later in the year. So you need to have a way to handle them.

7. Your Diet Has to Allow for Moments of Weakness.

Perfect diets are for perfect people. But there are no perfect people. So a perfect diet is destined to fail.

8. You Shouldn't Have to Exercise with the Diet To Lose Weight.

I'm not saying you shouldn't exercise. We all know exercise is healthy and it makes you feel good.

But the benefits of exercise should be a bonus. Not a necessary part of a diet plan.

After all, what if you become unable to exercise for some reason?

Or suppose you stop losing weight on your diet plan and you haven't reached a reasonable target weight. If the only way to start losing again is to exercise more, then the diet's not working.

9. You Should Get All the Information You Need When You Start the Diet.

If someone sells you a diet and you have to go back week after week to get more information, they're just trying to make money off of you. There's no reason why Week 1 should be substantially different from Week 9.

And when you pay your money, you should know what the entire diet system is about. How else can you evaluate if it's going to work for you?

10. You Should Control the Diet.

The diet shouldn't control you. By this, I mean that your diet should meet your needs and wants.

Strict rules just increase your chance of failure.

For example, if you like to snack in the evening, but your diet eliminates eating after 7PM, how are you most likely to fail on your diet?

That's right. By snacking in the evening.

But everyone has different needs and wants. So you have to be able to customize a diet to meet yours. Then you're more likely to succeed.

And of course, before starting any weight loss program, you should see your doctor to make sure your diet is right for you.

Do You Have Each Aspect Of Trust

The ability to gain and keep trust is a vital factor in being able to influence others. Research has shown, time and time again, that trust is always a contributing factor in the ability to influence others. When a person trusts you, trust alone can cause them to accept your message. On the flip side, if people dont trust you, all the evidence, reasoning, facts, or figures in the world wont get them to budge.

Trust can be an ambiguous concept, but certain things are quite clear: You cant get others to trust you unless you trust yourself first. Your message will not be convincing to others unless its convincing to you. Whenever someone tries to influence us, we ask ourselves, Can I trust this person? Do I believe him? Is she really concerned about me? We are less likely to be influenced if we sense that the person is driven solely by self-interest. Never assume that people trust you.

Always show the world you are someone to be trusted, no matter what the circumstances are. You can gain and enhance trust by doing the following:

Keep your promises
Be reliable
Under-promise and over-deliver
Admit your failures and weaknesses
Use logic with your emotion
Exhibit true concern for and about others
Never assume people completely trust you
Tell people only as much as theyll believe
Tell the truth, even if it hurts
Downplay any benefits to you

The Five Cs of Trust, will all help you gain the trust you need to have lasting influence. Let me illustrate how these elements work in a story. Imagine youre experiencing extreme tooth pain. Youve put off going to the dentist as long as possible, but now natures telling you your time has run out. You recently relocated, so your previous dentist is 2,000 miles away and no longer an option. You ask your new friends and neighbors about their dentists and get the following five responses:

1. My dentist has great CHARACTER. He is one of the most honest people I know. Hes not very competent, though. I heard hes famous for sticking the needle completely through your cheek.

Would you go to this dentist?

2. My dentist is one of the top dentists in the state. Hes extremely COMPETENT, but kind of a crook. He has no character. Hes been caught a few times for over billing and also sometimes fills more cavities than you actually have.

Would you go to this dentist?

3. My dentist doesnt have much CONFIDENCE in his work. One time he said to me, Ive never been very good at reading x-rays. I feel unsure about whether I should give you a root canal or just leave the tooth alone. Look at this x-ray and tell me what you think.

Would you go to this dentist?

4. Im not sure my dentist is licensed. I didnt see any degree or diplomas on his wall, and no one seems to know where he went to school. His office doesnt have the latest equipment. He even asked me to pay cash instead of writing a check. He has no CREDIBILITY in my book.

Would you go to this dentist?

5. My dentist is a nice guy, but he doesnt keep his stories straight. CONGRUENCY and CONSISTENCY are not his strong suits. Last year he said Id probably have to get a root canal on my molar the next time I came in. When I came back, I asked him about the root canal on my molar, and he said, You dont need a root canal on that tooth. Who told you that?

Would you go to this dentist?

Im sure you would spend more time trying to find a dentist who met all five criteria. A deep and lasting sense of trust will not exist without all five characteristics being present. We know if a person is lacking in just one of these areas, it will affect every aspect of their ability to build, gain, and maintain trust.

Radio Play: Will Topping The Charts Make You Bigger Than Elvis?

Every true life rock n roll television melodrama has the same scene: the unknown artist/band gives their freshly cut 45rpm single to the local disc jockey. He spins it on his top 40 radio showand a star is born. This legend has been passed down through the generations of wannabe popstars like an ancient family recipe. The ingredients may differ, but in the end you get the same glorious results: radio play equals fame and fortune.

But does this Top of the Charts fairytale still apply today in the sardonic post new millennium world we call today? Can a band in our current music scene walk into a radio station with a CD single in their hot little hands, impress and wow the DJ with their enthusiasm and chutzpa, obtain the magic and golden FM radio spins and then ride the wave of success all the way to Graceland? Well, then, I guess the real question would be, Do you believe in fairytales?

Unfortunately, the music industry, like the entire Earth, has become so overpopulated and so oversaturated with artists, music, CDs, and radio stations/shows of all kinds, that the chance of your own personal radio fairytale coming true is probably slim to none. But, dont give up on your favorite audio media outlet. Radio may not catapult you to instant superstardom but it certainly can help to push you down the path to success.

The following are a few tips that will help you to make your own music fairytale and get your music heard throughout the airwaves:

1.) Get Out Of Major Market The Top 40 Station Mentality---There was a day when getting played on a big city Top 40 radio station was like winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Bands that were chosen for play were handpicked by the voices of the airwaves whose ears were finely tuned to pick out the next new rising star. Today, things are a little different. Radio has become a huge corporation with three major conglomerates owning most of the stations in the United States. Sadly, Disc jockeys are no longer the innovators their predecessors were. Station management hands down a playlist (made exclusively of artists signed to mostly major labels) and the voices you hear on your radio are just thattalking heads animating a script. Its nearly impossible for an unknown band to break into mainstream large metropolis radio and a waste of your time and money to send packages blindly to a medium that will more than likely reject you again and again.

2.) The Specialty Show Is Your Ticket In---Still determined to get played on that hot radio station with 10 million listeners and a celebrity DJ? Well, there is a backdoor that you may be able to slip through. Its the specialty show. Many huge stations feature a weekly show structured just to highlight the little guyto showcase unsigned artists from that stations area and sometimes beyond. These shows are always worth sending your press package to, as they tend to base their playlist on your music and your credentials on not on the typical corporate artist roster. This is where you just might wow that innovative disc jockey and garner play on some of Americas biggest stations.

3.) College Radio Still Rocks---One area of radio that has stayed unaffected by the huge corporate retooling is the college/university station. Unlike companies/labels deciding what the listening audience thinks is cool or hip, college radio DJs and program directors are still setting their own cutting edges, breaking new artists, and finding the hot fresh stars of tomorrow hiding in their local clubs, coffee houses and garages. Its always beneficial for unsigned artists to send as many CDs (or email as many MP3s, if the station will accept that medium) to as many college stations as you can find. You will find stations to play you and people will be listening. This could lead to new fans, tour possibilities, and will definitely look fantastic on the radio page of your website or EPK. Whether or not it will actually make you a rockstar, it will sure make you feel like one.

4.) The Unlimited World Of Independent Radio---Back in the early days of radio, indie stations were limited to audio pirates in their basements stealing airwaves from unsuspecting Top 40 giants. Now, thanks to the internet, satellites, cell phones, iPods and cable TV, independent stations outnumber their AM/FM constituents in the thousands and new ones are created every day. Since doing a search of indie radio stations online has been known to cause a brain embolism in some, know that you will probably never be able to solicit them all in one lifetime and just relax and enjoy sending music to whomever you can, as you will probably garner hoards of airplay. Furthermore, your wallet will grow to love you as most of these stations will allow you to submit MP3s online.

Its true that the legendary story of the unknown band that got one single played on the radio and became superstars within a month is probably as outdated as the 8-Track tape. But that doesnt mean that the process of artists soliciting music for radio play has become archaic. Radio remains, to this day, one of the best ways for musicians to promote their music and their projects in their area.and now, thanks to terrific technological advancements, nationally and worldwide. The repetition of your single in the ears of even the most jaded radio listener, may lead to: CD and merchandise sales, gigging opportunities in your city and others, visits to your website, posts to your fan club forums, potential press and even maybe industry attention. So, dont stop sending those CDs, and emailing those MP3s because the next person who hears your song on the radio might just be the one who leads, either directly or indirectly, to your much sought record deal.
